The Wii's Knees

I haven't written in a long time, and I think it's because I have been putting too much meaning into what I write. I write a ton for my job, so I may get back into just writing to my heart's content. This doesn't need to be a whole ass guide or a cringy thinkpiece. It's just what I've been up to and what I find cool.

Skylanders for Everyone

My friends have been sick of me talking about how much money I'm spending on Skylanders currently. It's not nostalgia for me, for my family was a poor migrant family from Russia, but I always had a soft spot for amiibos, and the Animal Crossing one's specifically. The idea of a figurine saving progress in various games is really damn cool to me, so I used the extra income I have on finding cool Vinted sellers. I have actually been having only good experiences, and opening up the packages has been a treat. It helps that a whole lot of Skylanders are gneuinely dirt-cheap if you don't care about the fancy pricey one's.

The games are so charming and fun. Especially the first game on the Wii had so many crusty designs, but I can absolutely see how kids got addicted to that stuff. At first I thought it'd be weird for me to play a kid's game, but there is plenty of challenge in building the more inventive Skylanders and doing the little challenges. I'm currently running through Giants and I can't believe just how much game there is, and how totally lost you can get. The music absolutely fucks.

Wii U Wii

I dug up my old Wii U! I have always loved that thing despite the shitty publicity it had. It's a shitty console, but it's such a lovable chunk of plastic. It's THE machine for playing all the Skylanders games, and it has a whole ass Wii in it, which I have been using to emulate some games I was addicted to as a kid. Rune Factoy Frontier is a favorite of mine, and I also got myself a copy of Monster Hunter Tri. But currently I am going through The Last Story and Fragile Dreams. Both are very interesting spins on various genres.

Last Story feels a bit like an interpretation of Final Fantasy with a tactics angle that I genuinely love. I remember being very bad at the game as a kid, but it has a lot of charm and looks just very beautiful on the Wii. The protagonist is used very elegantly in the game as a supportive tank, which is a rarity. It's a gem.

Fragile Dreams feels like baby's first Silent Hill. You're a little boy with a stick trying to come by in a seemingly post-apocalyptic world full of ghosts. You use your wiimote as a flashlight which reveals the enemies you fight, but it's mostly a lot of running around and solving puzzles. The tone is rather magical.

Life is moving really fast for me

I published a paper!! It's super exciting and all, but it means lots of masking and talking to people. It's very cool, but I am very much feeling how all this responsibility is weighing on me. I am doing my best in expanding my support system, luckily. Hobbies will always keep me sane too. I even started my big art project, which I will talk about soon.
